Canary
A pharmacy platform with government-approved production access to Australia’s national e-prescription network.

Canary is a regulated digital pharmacy platform built from the ground up - patient-facing, pharmacy-facing, and fully integrated with Australia’s national e-prescription network. Achieving production access required months of security audits, clinical governance, and FHIR/HL7 compliance. The result is a platform capable of securely processing prescriptions at national scale - enabling pharmacies to tap into new customer demand by simply joining the network and fulfilling orders.
Problem
Electronic prescriptions were meant to simplify healthcare — but fulfilment remained broken.
Patients still had to call ahead, check stock, and visit multiple pharmacies. There was no unified system to route prescriptions, confirm availability, and complete the transaction — all within the constraints of government compliance.
Canary set out to change that. The real challenge wasn’t building the platform — it was earning the right to connect to Australia’s prescription infrastructure.
Solution
We built a regulated, two-sided platform connecting patients and pharmacies — with Australia’s national e-prescription network at its core.
Patients can upload a script token, select a participating pharmacy, and receive confirmation once their medication is ready. On the other side, pharmacies receive verified prescriptions, complete dispensing checks, and fulfil orders — all tied directly to the national record with full compliance logging.
The core of the system was a complete, production-ready implementation of the national prescribing standard — including FHIR R4, signed payloads, auditing, and clinical safety checks required for ADHA conformance.
After launch, we evolved the platform into a white-label SaaS product. Pharmacies can now operate their own branded instance on top of Canary’s infrastructure — accessing new demand without needing to achieve compliance independently.
Result
Canary achieved full production conformance with the Australian Digital Health Agency — placing it among a small number of platforms in the country with live access to the national e-prescription network.
The platform now operates across participating pharmacies, with real patient prescriptions being fulfilled daily. Post-launch, it evolved into a SaaS product — enabling pharmacies to access new customer demand and operate their own branded platform without building compliance infrastructure themselves.
